Adventures and bear hunts

‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ is a much-loved, classic children’s story by Michael Rosen. Here it is, read by the author…

Have you hunted for bears in windows on a daily walk during lockdown?

Journeys and adventures are a part of life for many children who have migrated. With your children, can you think of a memorable journey you went on, maybe a plane visit to see Grandparents, or a car journey across Europe?

Activity ideas:

  • Your story: Write/ draw your adventure into a story. Here is an idea of a template you can quickly draw on a piece of paper:
  • Imaginary play: If children are interested in this theme, you could get a suitcase and go on a hunt around the house together to fill it. You could include things in the house that remind you of your journey. This suitcase can then be used, indoors or outdoors, if your children want to play with it in imaginary play.

Play is the highest expression of human development in childhood, for it alone is the free expression of what is in a child’s soul
